About the Advanced First Responder course

The “Advanced First Responder” specialty course is a one-of-a-kind qualification that equips students with an extensive skillset and knowledge base to provide an advanced first aid response. The advanced skills taught throughout this course include management of an incident and other first aiders, administration of oxygen and analgesia (pain relief), operation of an automated external defibrillator (AED), as well as prolonged care of one or more casualties, until the arrival of medical assistance. It is relevant to workers who may be required to provide, coordinate, and manage a first aid response across a range of complex settings and circumstances, especially where medical assistance may be delayed or limited.

The Absolute Medical Response “Advanced First Responder” course is a nationally accredited qualification recognised across all industries. This course covers the advanced skills and knowledge required to use a variety of specialised equipment in the provision of resuscitation in accordance with Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines, including administration of analgesics.

Absolute Medical Response courses are taught by a team of highly-credentialled and passionate trainers, consisting of EMTs, Paramedics, Registered Nurses, and Doctors.

This comprehensive first responder course encompasses the following units:

  • HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
  • HLTAID010 Provide basic emergency life support
  • HLTAID011Provide first aid
  • HLTAID013 Provide first aid in remote or isolated site
  • HLTAID014 Provide advanced first aid
  • HLTAID015 Provide advanced resuscitation and oxygen therapy
  • PUAEME005 Provide Pain Management

Analgesics that may be administered upon successful completion of the unit PUAEME005 Provide Pain Management includes:

    • Nitrous oxide and oxygen (Entonox)
    • Methoxyflurane (Penthrox)
    • Oxygen
    • Adrenaline (EpiPen)
    • Heat treatment for penetrating marine creature injuries
    • Ice for localised skin pain

There are no entry requirements for this course. You can enrol at the Absolute Medical Response training institute at any time.

Course duration

The Advanced First Responder course teaches adults (over 18 years) how to provide an advanced first aid response. The course is conducted over 4 days classroom-training with online components to be completed.
