About the Certificate III in Patient transport course

The Absolute Medical Response HLT31120 Certificate III in Patient transport is offered to people seeking a career as a Patient Transport Officer. In accordance with training.gov.au* this “qualification covers workers who provide non-emergency transport and care of clients. Transport services of this kind are usually pre-arranged/booked and time of response is not given a high priority in comparison to emergency transport. Clients are those requiring transport and/or client care for non-acute or chronic illness or disability. This qualification is suited to Australian Apprenticeships pathways”.

The Absolute Medical Response HLT31120 Certificate III in Patient transport course is a nationally accredited qualification recognized by the broader Ambulance industry. This course provides students with and an introduction into the Ambulance and private Patient transport sectors.

Absolute Medical Response have a highly credentialed and qualified team of Emergency Medical Technicians, Paramedics and Intensive Care Paramedics who provide an interactive and practical understanding of the requirements of a Patient Transport Officer.

Please Note

As of the 23rd of December 2020, the National Regulator, ASQA, superseded this qualification nationally and an updated version has been released, titled HLT31120 Certificate III in Patient transport.

The current Certificate III Course, HLT3120 is now in a teach out period for 12 months and will be officially superseded on the 22nd December 2021.

For those students that are currently enrolled or enrolling into the Certificate III in Patient transport and who will not have their studies completed by this date, you will be automatically transferred over to the new course code.

Please be aware that this transition may entail additional gap training in the form of theory questions/practical scenarios and this will be outlined to you in full as the transition date gets closer.

Entry requirements

The entry requirements for this course are:

  • Current and Valid Driver’s Licence
  • Reasonable level of physical fitness
  • Current Working with Children’s Check is Desirable
  • Proficiency in English and possess a sound level of literacy and numeracy

Course duration

The Absolute Medical Response HLT31120 Certificate III in Patient transport course is a mixed learning course by face to face didactic sessions and practical scenario based learning. Students must complete this course within 6 – 12 months of commencement.

Guaranteed on the Job Training program

Absolute Medical Response has the ability and resources to provide students with dedicated placement program. This placement program consists of ride along with our Work Injury Response Service, non-emergency transport and special events and sporting fixtures. Students will gain a comprehensive understanding and experience related to the prehospital and intrahospital transport services and have the opportunity to apply their learned skills in real life situations.
