The “Provide an Emergency First Aid Response in an Education and Care Setting” (HLTAID012) course applies to teachers and support staff working in education or children’s services who may be required to respond to a first aid emergency in infants, children and adults.

Topics covered in this course include:

  • First aid principles
  • Legal issues and considerations
  • Infection control
  • Resuscitation and airway emergencies
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation
  • Use of an automatic external defibrillator (AED)
  • Asthma
  • Allergic reaction and anaphylaxis
  • Medical emergencies, including heart attack, diabetes, seizure, stroke, hyperventilation and temperature-related conditions
  • Trauma emergencies – bleeding, shock and crush injuries; head, neck and spinal injuries; fracture management and abdominal injuries; soft tissue and eye injuries; burns; venomous bites, stings and poison
  • Stress management and evaluation of first aid response
  • Asthma and anaphylaxis management plans
  • Documenting injuries

Course duration

The Absolute Medical Response “Provide First Aid in an Education and Care Setting” (HLTAID012) course is delivered in a blended format, which includes an online video and pre-course work, followed by 6 hours of face-to-face learning.

After enrolling, you will receive access to our online student portal, which provides all pre-course work, a first aid emergency manual, training and assessment information, a practice face mask and your student activity workbook to complete on the training day.

Upon successful completion of the course, you will be provided with a PDF copy of your “Provide First Aid in an Education and Care Setting (HLTAID012), incorporating CPR, First Aid and Asthma and Anaphylaxis Accreditation” Statement of Attainment
