About the Provide Basic Emergency Life Support course

The Absolute Medical Response “Provide Basic Emergency Life Support” equips students with the skills and knowledge required to recognise and respond to life-threatening emergencies in line with Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines. It is relevant to all workers who may be required to provide an emergency response in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.

The Absolute Medical Response “Basic Emergency Life Support (HLTAID010)” course is a nationally accredited module recognised across all industries. This course enables students to recognise, respond to and manage a cardiac emergency situation until the arrival of the ambulance or medical support.

Topics included in this course include:

  • Allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis
  • Asthma
  • Resuscitation and airway emergencies
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
  • Use of an automatic external defibrillator (AED)
  • Secondary survey, vital signs and handover
  • Trauma emergencies, including bleeding, shock and crush injuries
  • Other medical emergencies, including heart attack, diabetes, seizure, stroke, hyperventilation, temperature-related conditions
  • Infection control
  • Legal issues, including responsibilities and requirements
  • Communication skills, including providing details of a medical incident and handing over to the ambulance
  • Stress management, debriefing and evaluation of response to critical incidents
  • Incident reporting and documenting injuries

Upon completion of this nationally-recognised and accredited training course, students with be awarded the statement of attainment for: Basic Emergency Life Support (HLTAID010), incorporating HLTAID009 (Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation)

There are no entry requirements for this course. You can enrol at the Absolute Medical Response training institute at any time.

Course duration

This course is conducted face-to-face in a classroom setting over six hours. Assessment includes both theory and practical components, with compulsory online or workbook pre-work. You will receive access to our online student portal, which provides all pre-course work, a first aid emergency manual, training and assessment documents, a practice face mask and your student activity workbook to complete on the training day.

After successful completion of the course, you will be provided with a PDF copy of the “HLTAID010, incorporating HLTAID009” Statement of Attainment.
